What is the Mariinsky Theatre schedule and how can we buy tickets?

In St. Petersburg, Russia, the ballet performs at its home, the Mariinsky Theatre. The ballet shares the theater with the opera company and the orchestra. The schedule is available at the official Mariinsky Theatre website on this page:
http://www.mariinsky.spb.ru/en/playbill

Select a month in the drop-down box to see future dates. However, be aware that scheduling at the Mariinsky theater is often done only a few weeks in advance. Sometimes less.

The season at the Mariinsky Theatre is from the beginning of October to the beginning of August. Check the schedule for the exact dates. June is highlighted by the White Nights Festival and July (into the beginning of August) features guest artists and companies.

While the ballet company is often on tour these days, it still performs its full schedule at the Mariinksy Theatre. Both the opera and the ballet companies can perform in St. Petersburg and on tour at the same time, presenting full productions. Similarly, since the Kirov tours with its own orchestra, there are enough musicians for simultaneous tour and home productions.

If you are going to visit St. Petersburg and want to see a performance, you may choose seats and purchase tickets online. The link to the purchase pages is on the left side of the schedule page, a little below center.

To use the online ticket system, you must first register in the box at the top left of the first ticket page. However, this is quick and easy. (Note: the registration for the website and the registration for the ticket system are separate, though you can use the same name and password for both.)

The ticket purchase process is fully explained and not too difficult if you are patient.

Tickets can be charged by credit card, then picked up at the theater when the box office is open, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is necessary to print out a receipt from the website after your purchase.

Here is a Currency converter to help you understand the prices. Roubles is the only official currency in Russia so prices must be listed in Roubles. At this writing 1000 Roubles is about $33 U.S., but check with the converter if you wnat to be sure.

Tickets can also be bought directly from the box office when in St. Petersburg. Many tourists rely on their hotels or their travel companies to arrange for tickets, though these sources inevitably incur additional costs.
